May 25th vs Brewers

The Battalion got their first crack at the defending champions on Sunday and did not disappoint. The young squad was able to squeak by the veterans, 3-2, behind a stellar performance by Brendan Saville. Saville threw his first complete game since 2012, striking out 8 in the process. On the other side of the field, the Brewers couldnt help out their starter Marcel Levac, who went 5 innings allowing only 2 runs.

Once again the offense had issues at the plate, only mustering 4 hits all game. 2 of those came off the bat of centerfielder Joshua Jones. Jones went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run, a stolen base, and the game winning RBI. The turning point of the game came in the top of the 6th where Jones led off the inning with a single. and Eugenio Matos then drew a 9-pitch walk. This chased Levac from the game and brought in reliever Nick Gazo. Matos and Jones both stole, setting the table for Steve Renaud who was able to knock in the tying run. Evan Hammond then came up and battled for an RBI groundout, putting the Battalion up 2-1.

The Brewers came right back and tied it up at 2 in the bottom of the 6th on an unearned run. In the top of the 7th, Jones came up with 2 out and a runner on first. He promptly smacked a triple down the right field line to put the Battalion up 3-2. Saville came out and shut the door in the 7th to preserve his 1st win of the season.

W: Saville (1-1)
