The Battalion let a chance to move into first place in the NCBL slip away, as they fell 7-5 to the Kanata Athletics. This time the defense was to blame, allowing 5 unearned runs in the loss. The Battalion were on A’s starter Charlie Crabb, collecting 8 hits, but could never get that big hit to put a big inning up.
Evan Hammond went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. Steve Renaud bounced back and went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Renaud has now hit safely in 10 of 11 games he has played.
Brent Daviault took the hill for the Battalion, making his second career start. Unfortunately the defense was not solid behind him. Daviault lasted 4 innings, giving up 1 earned run, striking out 5. Casey Floyd came in to close out the last 2 innings, allowing 1 earned run.
The Battalion look to get back in the win column against the Outlaws next Thursday.
WP: Crabb (3-1)
LP: Daviault (0-1)
