July 15th VS Cardinals

The Battalion came up short 5-4 against the last place Cardinals, and have now dropped 3 of their last 4.  The bats never really got going and there were 4 runners stranded in scoring position with less than 1 out. 2 through 6 in the Battalion order were held at bay by Cardinals starter Adrian Yuen and combined to go 0-for-13.

Casey Floyd made his first career NCBL start and went a strong 5 innings, allowing only 3 earned runs. Floyd went 1-2-3 in the first inning before giving up one unearned in the 2nd, and then 3 earned in the 3rd. He settled in and retired 6 of the next 8 batters to get through 5 innings. Fellow rookie Matt MacIntyre then came out of the bullpen to finish things off. MacIntyre started with a scoreless 6th, even after letting up a leadoff double. Unfortunately, the Cards were able to push across the winning run in the bottom of the 7th after a bases loaded single by Kevin Martin.

Yuen was on the mound for the Cardinals and was able to hold the Battalion at bay. He let up a leadoff double to Ben Milinkovich in the top of the 3rd but was able to hold the inning to one run. However, the Battalion got to him in the 6th inning where with two out, Brent Daviault hit an RBI double in his first career NCBL at bat. The very next pitch went for a long home run by Alex Baldock to tie the game up at 4. Kyle Craig went 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and an RBI in the losing effort. Baldock ended up going 1-for-3 with the home run and 2 RBI.

The Battalion have a quick turn around in a huge game against second place Kingston. Winner will be the first place team at the end of the night.

WP: Kritsch (2-4)
LP: MacIntyre (0-1)
