The Battalion bounced back from a disappointing loss the night before to earn a tie in Kingston. It was a big game between the top two seeded teams in the NCBL and it did not disappoint. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Battalion bats went silent through the middle innings and allowed the Ponies to take a 4-3 lead into the 5th. Steve Renaud then blasted his 2nd home run of the season to tie the game up at 4-4. The Battalion 7-8-9 hitters had a combined 2 career NCBL at bats coming into the night and scored 2 of the teams runs.
Renaud went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 RBIs, raising his average to an astounding .449. Evan Hammond also had a bounce back game, going 2-for-2 with 2 singles, a walk, and a stolen base. The turning point of the game came in the third inning when Renaud and Hammond were on 2nd and 3rd with no outs but the Battalion could not capitalize.
Brendan Saville took the mound for the Battalion and battled through 6 innings. His command was not there throughout but battled through to get 7 strikeouts in his 6 innings of work. The 3rd and 4th inning cost him where he walked 3 in both innings, but managed to only let in 4 runs. Matt Wing came in from the outfield to preserve the tie in the bottom of the 7th and got the first two batters he faced before an error. He then got pinch hitter Cole Kaiser to fly out to end the game.
The Battalion are back at it on Sunday at 1:00pm vs the Brewers.
