After winning only one of their last 5 games, the Battalion came out on top 3-2 in a big win over the Nepean Brewers. The Battalion scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first and that was all they needed as Matt Wing picked up his 5th win of the season. The defense was incredible all game long as spectacular plays were made all over the field, including 2 double plays.
The offense started off hot with 4 of the first 5 batters getting hits. Alex Baldock continued his hot streak going 1-for-2 with a 2 RBI double, a walk, and a stolen base. Joshua Jones, Evan Hammond, and Steve Renaud all added a hit and a run in the win. Drew McCormick and Sam Brown also had one hit each.
Matt Wing started for the Battalion and picked up his 5th win of the season going 6 2/3, striking out 6. He finally allowed his first earned run of the season on an RBI single by Matt Beelen. Wing went out to start the 7th and walked the lead-off batter before striking out the next two batters. Next up was Jon Zywicki who was able to drop a hit in front of the left fielder. With runners on first and second, the Battalion went to Brendan Saville to close the door. Saville’s second pitch was wild and allowed the runners to move to 2nd and 3rd. This allowed them to intentionally walk Geoff Magnus. This brought up Keith Blouin with the bases loaded but Saville was able to get him to fly out to center field to end the game.
The Battalion are back at it Tuesday vs the Kanata Athletics.
WP: Wing (5-1)
LP: Magnus (3-1)
SV: Saville (1)
