July 22nd VS Athletics

With a lot of the big bats out of the lineup, the Battalion were going to need an ace performance from Brendan Saville. That is exactly what they got as the Battalion won a gritty game 2-0. It was a pitchers duel all game and the two teams combined for only 10 hits. It was 0-0 heading into the seventh before the Battalion were able to score 2.

Ryan Meek busted out in a big way, hitting his first NCBL home run. It was 0-0 with one out in the 7th before Meek hit a big home run off A’s starter Kevin Lamarche. Lamarche went 6.1 strong innings, allowing only 2 earned runs. Later in the 7th, the Battalion strung together 3 straight baserunners to chase Lamarche. This loaded the bases for Ben Milinkovich who was able to hit a 1-2 pitch just deep enough to score Brent Daviault from third. It was a big insurance run that gave Saville a 2 run lead going into the 7th.

Saville was on his game all night, striking out 7 and allowing only 3 hits. The lone time he was in trouble was the 6th inning where there were bases loaded and only 1 out. Phil Brunet laced a line drive but right at Daviault, who was playing first, which allowed him to double off the runner at 1st. The win improved Saville’s record to 4-1 on the season.

WP: Saville (4-1)
LP: Lamarche (1-2)
