May 10th VS Athletics

In almost a carbon copy of the season opener last year, the Battalion dropped their opener 13-7 to the Kanata Athletics. The Battalion fell behind the eight-ball early, allowing 12 runs in the first two innings.

NCBL rookie Tom Peake got the start for the Battalion and only last 2 innings, giving up 12 runs (9 earned) on 8 walks and 5 hits. He walked the first three batters of the game before striking out the next two. He was one strike away from getting out of the inning before a wild pitch allowed a run to score. The next pitch was hit to first base where a throwing error allowed 2 more runs to score.

Braden McGinnis made his Battalion debut and pitched 2 scoreless innings, while striking out 3. Matt MacIntyre came in for the final 2 innings, allowing 1 run while fanning 3.

The offence started out well as Kyle Craig led off the bottom of the 1st with a single, and was driven in on the next pitch on a triple by Josh Jones. After that the Battalion were only able to muster 2 more hits as MacIntyre and Ben Milinkovich had back to back singles in the bottom of the 4th.

The Battalion were able to draw 12 walks of their own, including 6 in the final inning to make the final 13-7

The Battalion are back at it on Tuesday night against the defending champion Panthers.
