The Battalion were in need of a big win and that is exactly what they got in game 1 of their double-header with the Kingston Ponies. Coming into the game the Battalion had lost 3 in a row and 5 of their last 6.
Braden McGinnis started on the mound for the Battalion and was his usual steady self, going 7 innings only allowing 3 runs. His final line was 7IP, 3ER, 3H, 3K, and 7BB. His only real mistake came in the 2nd inning where he let up a lead off home run to Spencer Green.
The offense finally clicked, tallying 11 hits, including 3 from Wil McIntyre, and 2 from Matt MacIntyre and Sam Brown.
The Battalion got on the board early as they had a 2 out rally, resulting in an RBI single by Evan Hammond. They would scratch one more across in the 3rd on an RBI single by Ryan Dillon. Steve Renaud added an RBI double to put the Battalion up 3-2 in the 4th.
The Ponies tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the 4th and thats the way it stayed all the way until the 8th inning. MacIntyre led off the inning with a double and was moved over to 3rd on a sac bunt. MacIntyre scored on a 2out, 2 strike pass ball.
Wil McIntyre came in for the final inning and was able to leave the tying run on 2nd to earn his first career save.
