Game 2 VS Cubs

The Battalion were looking to redeem themselves from last year, where they met these same Cubs in the 1st round and got swept. Matt Wing got the start in game 2 for the Battalion and he squared off against Chris Armstrong.

The Cubs got on the board early as they plated one in the top of the 1st on a 2 out RBI single from Jeff Gordon, scoring Kevin Brunet.

The Battalion were able to answer quickly, scoring one in the bottom of the 2nd, off a 2out RBI single from Josh Jones. Jones was a catalyst all night finishing 4-for-4 with 2RBI and a stolen base.

The Battalion added 2 more in the 3rd off an Alex Baldock 2 run home run. They were able to open up a wide lead in the 4th as they batted around and scored 6 runs, highlighted by Kyle Craig‘s 2 run home run. After the 4th it was 9-1 for the Battalion.

Matt Wing settled down after the 1st and gave up only gave up 1 more hit the rest of the way. Wing’s final line was 6.0IP, 5K, 3H, 1BB, 1R.

Craig got one more at bat in the 6th and made it count, hitting his 2nd homer of the game with a no doubter to leftfield. He finished the game 2-for-5 with 2HR and 4RBI.

Braden McGinnis came in for the final inning and was able to work through some trouble to preserve the win.

The win send the Battalion into the 2nd round for the first time in team history. They play the Kingston Ponies, who they were 2-1 against during the regular season.
