The Battalion were trying to stave off elimination one more time and force a game 5 against the Brewers.
It was the same pitching matchup as game 1, which saw a combined 3 hits allowed. Josh Soffer VS Nick Gazo did not disappoint again.
Both pitchers were able to deal the first time through the lineup and it was 0-0 after 3.
Alex Baldock came into the game with 3 home runs in the playoffs (and one that was disallowed in the rainout game), including one against Gazo in game 1. His second time up he was able to connect for another, this one off a hanging breaking ball from Gazo. It put the Battalion up 1-0 after 4.
This looked like it would be enough for Soffer, as he had only allowed 2 hits through 5.2 innings. That was until Scott Tunis came up and hit his first home run of the playoffs to tie the game. It was 1-1 after 5 and a half.
The Battalion had 8-9-1 to start the bottom of the 6th and they were able to come up big. Sam McIntosh had a great 6 pitch at bat that resulted in a line drive single to lead it off. Josh Jones followed that with a perfect sacrifice bunt. Kyle Craig then came up clutch with a huge RBI double to score McIntosh and make it 2-1. Craig advanced on a wild pitch before Musashi Takara scored him on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
This was more than enough for Soffer heading into the 7th. After getting into a 1nd and 2nd, 1 out jam, Soffer was able to induce the 1-4-3 double play to end the game.
The win forces a winner take all game 5 on Thursday night.
