The Battalion were looking to improve on their 0-2 all time record in openers, including last year’s 13-7 drubbing to the hands of the Athletics.
Josh Soffer got his first career Opening Day and was solid, tossing 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs while racking up 6 strike outs.
The Battalion fell down early after Wade Wilson blooped an RBI single to score Graeme Nichols in the bottom of the 1st.
The Athletics would add one in both the second and the 3rd. The Battalion would scratch one back in the top of the third. Musashi Takara laced a RBI single, scoring Kyle Craig who had doubled the at bat before.
Casey Floyd came in relief of Soffer in the bottom of the 6th, allowing an unearned run.
After 6 complete it was 4-1 Athletics.
The Battalion mounted a great comeback in the top of the 7th. Charlie Crabb and Craig got things going with back to back 1 out singles. The Battalion then had 5 straight base runners reach with 2 outs including an RBI single by Evan Hammond, a bases loaded walk by Ryan Dillon, and a go-ahead RBI infield single by Anthony DeYoung.
Floyd would go back out to the mound with a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 7th. He was able to strike out the leadoff batter before allowing back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second and one out, Floyd did not get a questionable call on a full count to load the bases. Daniel Osterer promptly ended the game with a walk-off 2 RBI single
