August 15th VS Brewers

The Battalion’s free fall continued last night as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the Nepean Brewers. Both teams were short on players but the difference was the sloppy defense by the Battalion, and strong starting pitching by the Brewers.

The Brewers went up 4-0 in the top of the first after two defensive blunders by the Battalion. They never looked back and added 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th, off reliever Evan Hammond, to put the game out of reach.

The Battalion offense was abysmal yet again, only mustering 3 hits and 5 base-runners all game long. This was due in large part to the pitching of Brewer’s Dave Steffler, who went 5 innings of shutout baseball. Steve Renaud added to his hit total with a single in the 6th, bumping his average up to .485. Ben Milinkovich and Drew McCormick added the other hits for the Battalion.

Brent Daviault was on the bump and went a solid 5 innings. A sloppy defensive first inning allowed 4 runs to cross but Daviault settled down after that and retired 12 of the next 14 batters to finish his night. His final line was 5.0IP, 3H, 3BB, 2K, 4R, 2ER. Evan Hammond came in for the final 2 innings, allowing 3 runs on a hit and 3 walks.

The Battalion finish their regular season on Wednesday vs the Cardinals. A win guarantees the Battalion at least a 3rd place finish.

WP: Steffler (1-0)
LP: Daviault (0-2)
SV: Levac (3)
