The Battalion were playing their first ever game in the finals against the much more experienced Brewers, who are making their 11th trip to the finals.
It was a battle of aces as Josh Soffer went up against Nick Gazo.
The Battalion got off to a quick start in the 1st where Alex Baldock hit a mammoth solo home run to put the Battalion up 1-0.
The bottom of the first was an inning to forget. With 2 outs, Geoff Magnus hit a chopper to shortstop Steve Renaud who threw it away at 1st, allowing the runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd. The next two pitches were a wild pitch and a passed ball which allowed both runners to score.
The Battalion bats just couldnt get anything going and stranded 5 runners in scoring positions in the final 4 innings alone.
Soffer was solid all night and did not allow one single hit. The 2 runs were enough for the Brewers who snuck out a 2-1 win in game 1.
Game 2 goes Thursday night as the Battalion try to bounce back.
WP: Gazo (3-0)
LP: Soffer (3-1)
